The shíshálh Nation Resource Management Department is actively involved in many cooperative fisheries, wildlife and environmental stewardship activities throughout its swiya. The main goal of the department is to protect, conserve and manage natural resources in a sustainable manner.
The Resource Management Department provides shíshálh Governmental services that includes assessments of salmonids, wildlife harvesting, as well as developing long term management goals that aid in the enhancement/restoration of fisheries, wildlife and forestry resources.
The Resource Management Department also provides a Fisheries Consulting Service (FCS) in a one-stop fisheries/environmental assessment service. The FCS, established in 1993, provides fisheries and environmental assessment related services accepted by both the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) and of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations (FLNRO) and a variety of clients involved in land development, forest management and hydroelectric development.
