Education, Training, & Post-Secondary Department

The shíshálh Nation Education, Training and Post-Secondary (ETAPS) Department is responsible for administering the Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada Post-Secondary Studies Support Program. This program provides eligible post-secondary students with sponsorship for tuition, textbooks, supplies, travel, tutorial services, and living allowance while attending college or university.
The Education and Employment Department also manages the Aboriginal Community Career Employment Services funding and support. Job Start supports things such as:

  • Work gear
  • Transportation costs
  • Individual seat purchases for trades training programs
  • Resume and cover letter writing assistance
  • Interview preparation skills
  • Community-based programming related to achieving gainful employment

There are also programs that are designed to help shishalh Nation Members finish Secondary School after the age of 19, whether they are upgrading their marks, or completing courses that are required for the Dogwood Diploma: graduation as an adult.

Adult Education is funded through Own Source Revenue funding to assist Nation members with employment-related training such as driver’s license training, work gear funding, and business plan writing.

There are other sponsorship opportunities such as funding that pays for:

  • Professional development courses
  • Workshops and conferences
  • Professional memberships to organizations
