Wellness Centre

Established in 2019, talaxawtxw Ɂe tems xwɁalishten (healing house for our brothers/sisters) is a Youth Wellness Centre where young people and their families can access resources, programs and services that will help them reach their fullest potential. talaxawtxw Ɂe tems xwɁalishten provides culturally responsive, child- and youth-focused programming and services that promote holistic physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellness in harmony with shíshálh teachings and culture. It provides opportunities for young Nation members to meaningfully engage with each other and the community, build their confidence, skills and capacity, create a sense of belonging and have fun. It is a space for the protection, promotion and practice of shíshálh culture and language.

Programs Delivered

Afterschool Programs for School-Age Children (K-7): Our afterschool programs provide a safe and engaging environment for children in kindergarten through grade 7. Designed to foster creativity and learning, these programs offer a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, games, cultural sharing, and recreational opportunities.

Afterschool Programs for Youth: Tailored for older students, our youth afterschool programs focus on personal development, skill-building, social connection, food, and fun. Participants can engage in leadership activities, mentorship opportunities, and community service projects, empowering them to become active contributors to society and become future community leaders.

Transportation: We provide transportation services to ensure that children and youth can access our programs safely and conveniently. This service alleviates barriers related to travel, allowing families to participate fully in our offerings.

Food Program: Our Food Program ensures that children have access to nutritious meals and snacks during their time in our programs. We emphasize healthy eating and provide education on nutrition, supporting overall well-being.

Pro-D Day Camps: On professional development days, we offer engaging camps for school-age children. These camps feature fun and educational activities, allowing kids to explore new interests while their parents work.

Spring Break Camp: Our Spring Break Camp provides a fun-filled experience for children during the school break. With a range of activities, including outdoor adventures and creative projects, this camp encourages play, exploration, and socialization.

Summer Fun Camp: Designed to keep kids active and engaged over the summer, our Summer Fun Camp offers a variety of recreational activities, field trips, and cultural experiences that promote friendship and community connection.

Recreation Programs: Our Recreation Programs provide opportunities for physical activity, skill development, and teamwork. From sports leagues to arts classes, we offer something for everyone to enjoy.

The shíshálh Nation Youth Recreation Grant is a community-based funding program that provides grants for shíshálh Nation children and youth aged 24 and under to participate in recreational activities such as sports, the arts, music and camps.

Traditional Wellness: We incorporate Traditional Wellness practices into our programming, honoring Indigenous healing methods and teachings. These sessions promote physical, emotional, and spiritual health, connecting participants with their cultural heritage.

The shíshálh Nation Cultural Workshop Grant is a community-based funding program that provides grants for shíshálh Nation Membership to participate in cultural workshops.

Community Events: Our Community Events bring people together to celebrate culture, share resources, and strengthen relationships. These gatherings foster a sense of belonging and community pride, creating opportunities for members of all ages to connect and engage.
